Powder Monkey Parade - Birchen Edge

Rich on the crux. Luckily we had an extra person who could get off the ground. I will need to come back and face the 'mighty struggle' getting off the floor!

Sail Buttress - Birchen Edge

The guide book described an awkward mantel shelf at the start - this led to a rather strange attempt to get off the ground. Sandy's face in the following shot spoke a thousand words - he didn't think much of the utter lack of style!

Topsail - Birchen Edge

A cold start in the morning. It was trying to snow but then brightened up in to a beautiful day.

The painful reach for a short second! The GoPro captured Rich's ascent - the lighting wasn't great unfortunately.

Flying Buttress - Stanage

This is a shot we took on the way past as we arrived at the crag. Four people were waiting to go up and so we moved on to the other routes. When we finally came back it was virtually dark, no time for pictures. Just enough to finish the route before the light went. A great pitch with an unlikely finish for the grade.

Black Slab - Stanage

A fantastic route. I have hardly done any climbing on gritstone and felt intimidated at times, looking for some crimps. None to be found, it was a thoughtful assent. Brillant.

April Crack - Stanage

A great day - pretty moody when we finally got there. You could sense that snow was on the way. Out of the wind it was fine but belaying at the top of the crag was bitter.

Chair Ladder

This was by far the sunniest day yet in 2013. Warm with blue skies, so we headed down to Chair Ladder to look at Terrier Tooth. The rock was dry and it would have been perfect if there had been less swell. It didn't look too bad from above, the occasional wave spraying the belay ledge with water. We decided to lower down for a closer look. This revealed that the spray was a little heavier than it appeared. Dousing the ledge and the first 3 metres of the route. We decided to wait and watch for a little longer, only to witness the most impressive rogue set approach and slam into the wall above the belay ledge.  We had definitely made the right decision.
